The TACHS Resident Services Program is designed to help our residents maintain housing stability, foster greater independence, and to reduce the tendency of persons with disabilities to become homeless again. TACHS Resident Services assists our residents to follow the guidelines of their lease, locate the services needed to manage their illness, and to increase their life skills. Resident Services staff members meet with residents to determine needs, create personalized, self-determined plans to increase skills/ income; assure housing stability, and meet the goals outlined by HUD and other funding sources.
We also coordinate group activities to decrease isolation and build community, advocate when residents need assistance accessing resources, and reinforce alcohol and drug-free housing. TACHS also partners with local service agencies, such as the Impact Program and Heritage Clinic, to provide case management services to qualifying residents. With these partnerships, qualifying residents in each of our properties have access to on-site support and outside case management.
Statement of Program Philosophy
Our Resident Services program utilizes a Stage-Wise Approach or modified Harm Reduction outlook with the goal of stopping the cycle of chronic homelessness and promoting successful housing behavior. Our goal is to provide a “home” for our residents with enough supports to remain independent but for “treatment” to occur in the community. We believe strongly that meeting each resident at their individual level and developing their own self-determination is the key to the success of our residents. Our role in this “resident centered” approach is to assist residents in developing their own plans and skills and to help them in reviewing the options open to them and the consequences of each decision. We have found that applying this approach to the fixed guidelines of a lease with established house rules is the most effective manner to support our residents to remain successfully housed and to regain a sense of life control.
By strategically focusing on the cultural shift that tends to occur post-housing, promoting safety, reducing the harm that surrounds our residents, maintaining a sense of community and stability, and building life skills and self determination, we help to set up our residents for success once they are ready to leave our properties. The entire goal of our Resident Services Program is to assist residents to end the cycle of homelessness, remain stable in their housing and symptoms, and to eventually gain the skills needed so that they no longer require our support or housing!
